 The responsibility of the Codes Office of the Town of Lenox is to promote safety and prevent fire by ensuring compliance with the NYS Uniform Building and Fire codes and for the Town to develop in keeping with the vision of the Town Board through Zoning Codes. The Codes office is dedicated to the strict enforcement of sanitary and property maintenance standards for the good of all of the Town’s residents.

Permits are required for all work that must comply with State or Local Codes, including but not limited to:

• New Construction
• Any structural alteration, repair or addition
• Any alteration to building envelope which affects energy efficiency; replacement windows etc.
• Porches, decks, sheds and fences
• Any alteration that affects fire safety
• Any work affecting septic or sewer systems, new or repair
• Any installation or modification to solid fuel burning appliances; wood stoves, pellet stoves etc.
